Our Mission & Vision

MISSION

The Mission of the Eastern Panhandle LGBTQ Alliance of West Virginia is to Support, Mentor, Educate, Collaborate, Link, Organize and Provide Outreach to and for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Communities, their Families, Friends, and Allies.

VISION

To fulfill the Mission of the Eastern Panhandle LGBTQ Alliance of West Virginia, we will do the following:

  • Provide an Internet presence for this Alliance on a significant Social Media site, as well as a dedicated Web Site.

  • Create links to other web sites that will support and extend the LGBTQ mission of this organization.

  • Establish a published telephone number for the dissemination of information to the LGBTQ Community, its friends and allies.

  • Create a published Roster of LGBTQ-affirming spiritual and ethical organizations.

  • Create a published Roster of LGBTQ-affirming Organizations and Services.

  • Create a published Roster of LGBTQ-affirming Businesses

  • Create, Encourage and Participate in the Identification, Presence, and Growth of the LGBTQ Community on the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.

  • Participate in the resolution of the bullying problem, both in our schools, in our places of worship, and in our workplaces.

  • Promote the formation of a local chapter similar to Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) on the Eastern Panhandle, and closely collaborate with that organization for the support of our at risk younger LBGTQ persons.

Our History

This organization was founded  on June 13, 2013. Since then, we have invited new members, written our Mission and Vision Statements, and are now devising a Business Plan, creating By-Laws, and will eventually apply for a 501-C-3 or C-4 IRS Tax Exempt Status. All of these objectives require involvement from our entire LGBTQ Community.

We  elected a working Board of Directors [called the Steering Committee] that was comprised of seven members, and we are actively seeking additional Steering Committee members. We are also pursuing a myriad of tasks within the next year, planning several EVENTS, including Panhandle PRIDE on July 12, 2014. All of this activity will enable us to become a viable, working, LGBTQ Alliance.

We encourage all LGBTQ persons, their friends and families, in the Eastern Panhandle and beyond to become part of our Alliance.

Eastern Panhandle LGBTQ Board Meetings are held the third Thursday evening of each month at 7:00 PM. New Volunteers, Event Planners, and Prospective Alliance Officers and members of the Board are always welcomed. Without donations and volunteers, there can be no Panhandle PRIDE. PLEASE DONATE AND VOLUNTEER! There is no Panhandle Alliance without Community participation.
